The educational boards in Punjab have taken a significant step to enhance students' English skills and align educational standards with global norms.
Starting in 2025, all schools in Punjab will conduct exams in English for both science and arts subjects.
As part of this plan, Urdu will gradually be removed from question papers to have a consistent language medium for all subjects. Additionally, starting in 2026, all optional subjects for FA exams will also be taught in English.
The official approval for this plan is still pending, but educational authorities are optimistic that it will be approved during the upcoming Punjab Boards Committee Chairmen (PBCC) meeting.
Meanwhile, Rana Liaqat Ali, the General Secretary of the Punjab Teachers Union, has expressed concerns about potential challenges that could arise from the language transition.
He also emphasized the need to train teachers for a smooth change and reduce student failure rates caused by language barriers.
