INDIA, the Government of Saskatchewan and the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) have accept to expand the terms of their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen the international and academic connections among Saskatchewan as well as India. Saskatchewan's Premier Scott Moe, representing the province has signed the MOU during his vist to India.
"International students add a worldwide viewpoint to Saskatchewan, making our culture more vibrant and connecting their homes with ours," explained Advanced Education Minister Gordon Wyant. "India is an important partner for Saskatchewan in education and trade, and we are delighted to maintain this partnership with the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute to facilitate research collaborations and the sharing of students and teachers between our schools and universities."
The MOU will last for three years, and the post-secondary schools involved will keep collaborating to create education strategies, build connections, and share knowledge globally. Schools belonging to SICI get perks like grants, event participation, workshops, and chances for student development. They might also qualify for funding or funded programs.
SICI is a special educational group with 194 schools in India and Canada, like the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan. It aims to connect India and Canada through school exchanges, research, and partnerships. SICI provides programs for students, teachers, and schools in Saskatchewan to join.
"The Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute has been working to improve higher education, research, and student exchanges between India and Canada for more than 55 years," said Dr. Pavneesh Madan, President of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute. "We are thrilled to renew our MOU with the Ministry of Advanced Education, Government of Saskatchewan, to strengthen collaboration between schools in Saskatchewan and India through various activities such as sharing knowledge, forming partnerships between institutions, professional development, and involving students and teachers."
In the 2022-23 school year, more than 4,300 students from India join Saskatchewan's select learning institutions, making up over 38 percent of all international students.
