The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) has made a big change in how they test students in practical exams for high school. They want to make these exams better for students in grades 9 to 12.
Next year, the FBISE plans to make changes in exams for high school. They won't use practical notebooks or viva voce in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) tests.
The matric exam will happen in April, and the HSSC (intermediate) exams will take place in May 2024.
Because of the new rules, students will now have a different kind of test that focuses more on doing things rather than writing in notebooks or speaking in exams.
The FBISE made an announcement on November 13 about some changes. They said that for the 2024 exams, there will still be practical tests but with some changes. Instead of using notebooks and speaking tests, students will have specific questions to answer.
Instead of grading notebooks and speaking tests, students will now get marks for answering specific questions on special sheets provided to them.
The head of FBISE, Qaiser Alam, talked about problems with the old system. He said some students were getting already solved notebooks from shops. He wants the new rules to help students do real practical work instead of using already solved notebooks.
The FBISE got support for the new rules from the Inter-Board Coordination Commission (IBCC). This group includes all national boards, and they want practical exams to get better.
Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah from IBCC said good things about FBISE's idea. He hopes that other boards will also make their practical exams better.
