Introduction Of New GPA-Based Grading System In Secondary Education

The previous marks system has been replaced, as unanimously agreed upon by all educational boards in Pakistan. This change will take effect this year for the class 9 board examination results. The students' result cards will display their GPA on a scale of 1-5, with exact marks no longer being featured on the cards.

As previously determined, the grading system for SSC Part-I (9th class) and HSSC-1 (1st year) will be implemented starting from the Annual Board Examination 2023, and for classes 10th and 12th, it will commence from the Annual Examinations 2024. In the beginning, the results will indicate both the absolute marks (as per the previous practice) and the corresponding grades and GPA. Consequently, the results for the Annual Examination 2025 onward will be communicated solely through Grades, GPA, and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

Computation Of GPA In The Grading System For Board Examinations

Online transcript and result card will now reflect the newly introduced GPA-based grading system. This updated system has been universally adopted by all educational boards in Pakistan. Its implementation begins with the 9th class and 1st year examinations in 2023, followed by the 10th and 2nd year examinations in 2024. To facilitate the conversion of Percentage to GPA, a convenient table has been provided below. This table will assist students in calculating their GPA or approximating their marks.
