Introduction Of New GPA-Based Grading System In Secondary Education

The traditional marks system has been replaced by a unanimous decision across all educational boards in Pakistan. This alteration will take effect starting from this year, particularly for the class 9 board examination results. The result cards issued to students will now display the GPA on a scale of 1 to 5. However, the precise numerical marks will no longer be featured on the result cards.

In alignment with the earlier announcement, the grading system will be introduced for SSC Part-I (9th class) and HSSC-1 (1st year) during the Annual Board Examination of 2023. Similarly, for classes 10th and 12th, this grading system will be applied from the Annual Examinations of 2024. Initially, the results will include both the conventional absolute marks (as previously practiced) and the respective grades, alongside the GPA. Following this, commencing with the Annual Examination of 2025, the outcomes will be exclusively communicated via Grades, GPA, and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

Computation Of GPA In The Grading System For Board Examinations

The online transcript and result card will now feature the novel grading system, grounded in GPA. Presently, this modern grading approach has been universally adopted by all educational boards throughout Pakistan. The implementation of this fresh system is designated for the 9th class and 1st year students, commencing from the year 2023, and for the 10th class and 2nd year students from 2024 onward. Facilitating the conversion of Percentage to GPA has been simplified through an illustrative table provided below, enabling students to effortlessly compute their GPA or make informed estimations based on the table's assistance.
