Introduction Of New GPA-Based Grading System In Secondary Education

Starting from this academic year, students will receive a GPA (Grade Point Average) ranging from 1 to 5. The specific numerical marks will no longer be displayed on the students result cards.

A formal notification has been issued by all educational boards regarding this change. The plan is to implement the new grading system for 9th and 11th-grade classes starting from the Annual Examinations of 2023. For 10th and 12th-grade classes, this system will come into effect from the Annual Examinations of 2024. Initially, the results will include both the absolute marks, the corresponding grades, and the GPA. Next, in the ensuing phase, the outcomes of the Annual Examination in 2025 will be exclusively conveyed through Grades, GPA, and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

Computation Of GPA In The Grading System For Board Examinations

The online transcript and result card will now incorporate the recently introduced GPA-based grading system. Currently, all educational boards across Pakistan have adopted this new grading system. It will be implemented for 9th class and 1st year students starting from the year 2023, and for 10th and 2nd year students from the year 2024. The process of calculating GPA is simplified through the utilization of the following table, which serves as a helpful tool for students to determine their GPA or estimate their corresponding marks.
